Best Practice Guide in Infant-Maternal Mental Health-Training completed in Tinos

SOPHROSYNA is pleased to announce the completion of its first training of non-mental health professionals in infant-maternal mental health in Tinos the weekend of 3-4 February 2018.

The Health Centre’s midwife, Ms S.Delatola, the Municipal Council of Tinos social worker, Ms A. Araimpaitzi, Kindermusik and La Leche League Lactation Consultant trainee Ms E. Palamari and nursery staff from the DayCare Centre of “EIRINI”, Ms E. Santamouri, Ms Emmanuela Santamouri and Ms E. Arnaouti, were the first professionals to undertake the two-day intensive course training which focused on infant and maternal mental health.

Isolated regions such as the Cyclades have limited resources and access to mental health services. SOPHROSYNA’s training provided a best practice guide towards infant-maternal attachment, developmental, cognitive and social effects on learning. Maternal mental health training depicted adjustment towards motherhood, perinatal mood & anxiety disorders as well as clinical care pathways.

We take this opportunity to thank the Womens Association of Tinos in particular the President Mrs Garyfallia Plyta, for their continued support and provision of their premises for our training as well as cycles 2,3, 4 and soon-to-be 5 of the Mothers and Babies 6-week Program.

Thank you for making Infant and Maternal Mental Health Trainin a success in Tinos and hopefully the wider Cycladic region.
